Since its inception in 1999, Cuyahoga County’s Invest in Children program has been the
product of a public/private partnership.

The Partnership Committee represented a new approach to how government and
philanthropy can work together for a common purpose. The Committee was based on a
consensus that early childhood development was an important issue that needed to become
a higher public priority, and Committee members agreed on Invest in Children’s universal
and preventive focus, its research-based strategies, and its clearly defined outcomes.

The Partnership Committee includes a broad range of civic and
community leadership, and is responsible for the following:

• Financial oversight and resource development

• Communications and increased public awareness

• Monitoring and evaluation

• Strategic planning
